Students and staff fundraised to sponsor a van that will deliver pre-loved goods to shoppers supporting the hospice
Students and staff at The Park Community School have raised £2,100 to sponsor a van at North Devon Hospice. Thanks to their esteemed fundraising efforts, more pre-loved goods can now be delivered to shoppers across the county purchasing items from the hospice to help fund vital care for patients and families.
North Devon Hospice provides care for local people who are affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. As well as offering support at home, patients can also be admitted to their Bedded Unit when symptoms become more severe, for help with pain management and to make them feel as comfortable as possible when they need it most.
Wanting to help people in their community get the end-of-life care they deserve, the students at The Park Community School have hosted several fundraising events over the previous school terms to help generate sponsorship for the van, one of which was a non-school uniform day.
Craig Tamlyn, Acting Headteacher at The Park Community School was delighted by the student’s commitment to fundraising for such an important local cause. “I am incredibly proud of all the students and staff at The Park Community School who have put so much effort into raising this money,” said Craig. "The school has a long tradition of fundraising to support a wide range of local, national, and international charities and reflects our commitment to fostering empathy and social responsibility in our students. We are so pleased that this donation will support the invaluable work of North Devon Hospice in our local community, and we look forward to seeing the van transporting furniture around North Devon."
The vital sponsorship raised by the school will fund a hospice van for one year, which will be used to deliver second-hand furniture and homewares purchased from the hospice’s Furniture Centre at Two Rivers Industrial Estate to thrifty customers throughout North Devon.
Paul O’Callaghan, BFC & Logistics Manager at North Devon Hospice said what a difference having the school’s sponsorship will make to the hospice’s retail operation. “Thank you so much to all the staff and students at The Park Community School for raising such a fantastic amount to sponsor one of our vans,” said Paul. “To see young people using their initiative to help support such a worthy local cause is just wonderful. Thanks to their kindness, we can now spread even more smiles by delivering goods straight to shoppers’ doors, providing a seamless shopping experience, and encouraging them to keep supporting patients and families in this way.”
You can visit North Devon Hospice’s Furniture Centre between 9am and 4.15pm, Monday – Saturday, or between 10am and 4pm on Sundays to find quality pieces at great prices and help support local people facing a life-limiting illness.
