Mission: Unbreakable has been hailed as the most successful yet, with almost 700 hardy fundraisers braving the mud, obstacles, and freezing water to support patients and families facing a life-limiting illness.
Almost 700 hardy fundraisers braved the mud, obstacles, and freezing water to support patients and families facing a life-limiting illness.
This year’s event, kindly supported by headline sponsor Wollens, saw participants of all ages and abilities tackling the military-style 10k course, designed with the help of 24 Commando Royal Engineers from RMB Chivenor. Along with conquering several notorious obstacles including the infamous ‘Sheep Dip’ and ‘Freezing Private Ryan’, those taking part were also faced with new challenges on the course such as ‘Lightning Run’ – a mock storm tunnel created by The Met Office, and ‘CT1 and Out’- kindly sponsored by CT1 South West - which saw participants taking a leap of faith before crossing the course finish line.
Lisa Mackenzie, North Devon Hospice’s Event Manager, expressed her delight at seeing so many smiling faces on the Mission: Unbreakable course this year. “This was, without doubt, the biggest and best Mission: Unbreakable we've ever hosted,” said Lisa. “To see almost 700 people come together for such an important cause is truly inspiring. The energy on the day was incredible, and we are so grateful to every single participant who took part. Their efforts mean we can continue providing compassionate care to local families at a time when they need it most. A huge thank you also goes to Wollens, our headline sponsor, for their continued support and belief in what we do."
A highlight on the North Devon calendar, Mission: Unbreakable is one of the hospice’s best-loved events, known for its challenging obstacles and the sheer determination of those who take part. It’s hoped that over £60,000 will be raised in sponsorship from this year’s event, to help North Devon Hospice provide care now, in their 40th anniversary year, and beyond.
“This year was another great year at Mission: Unbreakable for Team Wollens,” said Dave Eastman, partner at Wollens. “We’ve been headline sponsors for this event since day one and are so proud to support this commando challenge in aid of North Devon Hospice. It’s a great event to be part of and long may it continue!”
