Our Mission is Simple
To provide outstanding care and support to the community of North Devon who are impacted by a life-limiting illness.

Become the charity’s chief storyteller and content creator. An amazing opportunity to work with inspiring people, creating compelling stories and social media content, to reflect the uplifting world of North Devon Hospice.

You’ll work with our incredible care teams, as well as the patients and families whose lives have been transformed by our care, capturing the precious moments which make the hospice such a special place. This content will support the work of our fundraising, retail and lottery teams, as you articulate to our community why supporting their local hospice is so vital.

To help you succeed, you’ll have the support of one of the best charity marketing teams in the entire country, who were nominated as Comms Team of the Year at the prestigious Third Sector Awards in 2024.

Within this team, you’ll get to use your creativity, relationship-building skills and digital knowledge to produce engaging content, and make sure it reaches the widest possible audience.

Among other things, as our Communications Officer, you will:

  • Be responsible for our social media output. With support from the whole team, you’ll plan fantastic posts as well as reacting to capture content when the opportunities arise in real time
  • Create engaging stories about the compassionate care and uplifting life of the hospice
  • Raise our profile by keeping the charity in the local and regional media
  • Produce, monitor and optimise compelling Meta ads, which motivate the community to take action and support the cause
  • Build relationships with care teams, patients and their loved ones, the wider staff, volunteers and other stakeholders
  • Update our website with stories and other content which supports fundraising activities

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • An excellent knowledge of social media management, demonstrating an ability to create outstanding content and keep on top of trends
  • Top notch copywriting skills, tailoring your style to suit specific audiences
  • Strong marketing, communications or journalism experience
  • Sound knowledge of Meta Business Suite and Ads Manager
  • The ability to create content for a range of media (photography, video or design experience would be particularly advantageous – using Adobe programmes and Canva)
  • Been part of successful PR/marketing campaigns
  • A keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy

This role is for a fixed term of one year, as maternity cover. The ideal applicant could start in early-to-mid May 2025, to include a handover period with the current post-holder. However, this is flexible and up for discussion.

The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week), but part-time hours would be considered for the right applicant.

We believe that everyone’s life is a story, and the ending matters. If you do too, and you want to have true meaning in your job, come join us and tell beautiful stories together.
